Running Sucks
I can help it suck less.
There is no activity in the world that makes me feel as healthy and energetic as when I am running consistently. Since high school, I have had an on again off again love affair with being a runner, and every time I come back to it the benefits to how I feel become immediately apparent.
There's just one problem: I hate running.
In junior high, I was the kid who faked sick to get out of the mile run. The only reason why I eventually started running was because I didn't have access to a gym. Every time I start, I end up eventually quitting for a very good reason: even though running is good for me, it doesn't feel good while I am doing it.
It wasn't until I started studying Alexander Technique movement work that I realized that running didn't have to feel bad. Applying A.T. work to running took the crunch out of it--I felt lighter and springier, and though it was still challenging to run the challenge felt good. I no longer wanted to quit running after a few weeks but looked forward to it as one of the highlights of my day.
I started working with my students on running and took my training further by becoming a certified The Art of Running teacher (www.artofrunning.com), a specialized method for applying A.T. work to running. I quickly realized that what I would enjoy most would not be working with "high performance runners" but people like me who know running helps them but struggle with it.
We will work together to develop practices that will help make running less of a chore and more of a joy, as well as to meet your personal goals. Points worked on may include:
One hour sessions are $75 apiece and can be shared by up to three participants. Package rates available upon request.
